There is no “one size fits all” when it comes to dry eye treatment. Our optometrists work with patients to find the best solution based on symptoms, diagnosis, and personal preferences. We will also modify the plan throughout treatment to best fit patient needs. We want our patients to find the relief they’ve been waiting for and will take the extra steps to obtain clear and comfortable vision.

Autologous Serum
Autologous Serum is a revolutionary new treatment using the patient’s own blood to create eye drops. This treatment does require frequent blood draws to prepare the serum, but it provides fast and effective relief from inflammation. The drops heal the surface layer of the eye by promoting healthy cell growth and tear production.

Avenova®
In addition to other treatments, Avenova fights off bacteria commonly found on eyelids and lashes. The spray solution can be purchased in-office and used daily to keep lids and glands clean.

BlephEx™
BlephEx™ is a treatment recommended for patients suffering from Blepharitis. This inflammatory disease occurs when the oil glands near the base of the eyelashes become clogged, making tears evaporate too quickly. Our Optometrist will use the hand-held device to clean eyelids and unclog glands. The instrument has a medical-grade micro-sponge at the tip which spins to exfoliate away any bacterial debris and buildup. The process takes only a few minutes and will need to be repeated 2 to 3 times a year for relief.

Bruder Eye Compress
Available for purchase in-office, Bruder Eye Compresses provide additional relief at-home in addition to other treatments. The device is heated for a few seconds in a microwave and then applied to the eyes for 10 minutes. The compress helps to open glands and improve tears.

Maskin Procedure
The Maskin procedure is a rigorous treatment option similar to BlephEx in that it unclogs oil glands along the eyelid. The process is known to be uncomfortable, so a local anesthetic is administered before beginning. Once the eyelids are numb, the Optometrist will use microprobes to open the glands one at a time and relieve eyelid tenderness.

IPL (intense pulsed light) is a revolutionary treatment for skin and eyelid inflammation which, in many cases, is the root cause of dry eye. With the IPL technology, light pulses penetrate the tissue and create heat, targeting the abnormal vessels that are the root cause of the inflammation.

Prokera®
Used in damaged or eroded corneas, Prokera® heals the surface of the eye while reducing inflammation. The device is similar to that of a contact lens and contains amniotic tissue, praised for its natural therapeutic properties. Prokera is inserted into the eyes by our Optometrist and removed in 5 to 7 days. The thick ring may be difficult to adjust to, but it will provide relief from the pain associated with dry eye.

Punctal Plugs
Considered when eye drops fail to relieve dry eye, punctal plugs block tear ducts and prevents tears from draining. The lack of draining increases the eye’s tear film and moisture. The plugs are inserted in-office and, other than the slight initial discomfort, they are practically unnoticeable.

Restasis®
Restasis® is a twice-daily prescription that helps eyes naturally increase their tear production. It works by reducing inflammation in tear glands. Treatment with Restasis can take as long as 6 months before reaching maximum benefits, so it is important to continue use. Eye drops can also be used in conjunction with Restasis.

Xiidra®
A prescription eye drop, Xiidra® was developed to treat the signs and symptoms caused by dry eye. It works by targeting the inflammation on the eye's surface and prevents inflammatory cell binding. Xiidra has been known to provide relief for some in less than 2 weeks and reduces the signs of dry eye by week 12.
