Expert Optometrist Eric E. Schmidt O. D.
DR ERIC E. SCHMIDT founder of Bladen Eye Center, brings 22 years of expertise to Elizabethtown. He received his Undergraduate in 1983 from University of Illinois. He received his Doctorate from the University of Pennsylvania and did an internship and fellowship in Glaucoma. He lectures internationally to his colleagues on Glaucoma, Diabetes and Retinal Disorders.
Dr. Schmidt believes that exquisite eye care should be delivered to each individual patient. He wants to meet the needs of each individual patient in a compassionate manner. Dr. Schmidt also embraces the fact that state-of-the-art eye care can be delivered in a comfortable setting right here in Bladen County. The ability to provide cutting-edge eye care in our hometown is paramount to him.
Dr. Schmidt enjoys water sports, outdoor activities and boating, when he is not practicing Optometry. He has three children, Katie and Mackenzie are currently at The University of North Carolina in The School of Journalism and his son, Sam is currently at Hoggard High School, active in baseball. Dr. Schmidt and his wife, Tracey have resided in North Carolina for over 22 years and love it!
Expert Optometrist Hannah DeMarino, O.D.
Hannah DeMarino, O.D. grew up in Glenville, West Virginia and completed her undergraduate education at West Virginia University, majoring in biochemistry. She received her Doctor of Optometry from the Pennsylvania College of Optometry at Salus University, graduating with clinical honors and completing advanced studies in anterior segment disease.
Dr. DeMarino further trained at the VA San Diego Healthcare System where she completed a primary eye care residency with an emphasis in ocular disease. During her time there, she also gained experience in managing patients with low vision and traumatic brain injury and was able to perform minor surgical procedures.
Dr. DeMarino is excited to join the team and provide high-quality, compassionate eye care to her patients. Considering vision and ocular health to be extremely important, she enjoys making a difference in her patients’ eye care. Dr. DeMarino’s areas of focus include glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration, dry eye and contact lenses. She will be providing comprehensive eye exams, treating all forms of chronic and emergent ocular disease.
Dr. DeMarino currently resides in Wilmington, North Carolina. In her free time, she enjoys going to OrangeTheory, trying new restaurants, and spending time with family, friends and her bernedoodle, Ella.
Expert Optometrist Courtney Walters, O.D.
Dr. Courtney Walters is originally from Falcon, N.C. She completed her undergraduate studies at East Carolina University where she received her Bachelor of Science in Public Health.
She then completed her Doctorate of Optometry at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. Dr. Walters received training in primary eye care, pediatric eye care, ocular disease, and low vision. She also completed an internship where she received training in specialty contact lenses in patients with post-refractive surgery complications, keratoconus, and many other ocular conditions. Dr. Walters completed her externship at the Birmingham V.A. Hospital where she received extensive training in ocular disease and managing numerous ocular conditions such as glaucoma, macular degeneration, and diabetic retinopathy. Dr. Walters is an active member of the Beta Sigma Kappa Honor Society and American Optometric Association.
Dr. Walters now resides in Wilmington, N.C. with her fiancé. When she’s not providing care to patients, Dr. Walters enjoys spending time at the beach, reading, and training her new golden retriever puppy, Sunny!
